Resumen

We live in a digital society where applications, social networks and audiovisual content platforms are the main media, generating changes in the way citizens communicate, stay informed or connect with the others. For young university students, mobile devices and social networks are part of daily life. Instagram is the most popular social network among young people who use this platform both during academic year and in their free time and has become an indispensable part of their social interaction. The objective of this work was to reinforce knowledge and promote autonomous learning of students through the creation and consultation of ICT materials and resources on the Instagram account (@ FoodIDEA_UV), a social network used as an educational resource in the subject of Food Chemistry (compulsory subject of 6 ECTS of the degrees in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology and the double degree in Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics). To this end, the students were involved in creating concept maps-schemes of the key concepts of the subject, which were part of the continuous evaluation activities, with the aim of disseminating them in the form of info graphics. In addition, current news posts, press releases, articles and other multimedia material related to the subject were frequently published. Students’ motivation, level of satisfaction with learning, and skill acquisition were evaluated. The results show that the students successfully completed the collabo rative work through the creation of content and that the digital dissemination on the Instagram account facilitated the interaction with the professors and motivated them and made them more interested in the topic. Students found particularly useful the posts on the Instagram account that linked theoretical concepts of the subject with their potential practical applications
