Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study deals with the effectiveness of a mindfulness based intervention on medical students. It was conducted among 116 students of the Medical Faculty of the University of Lleida. The Intervention Group was formed by 43 students who had attended a mindfulness program. The Control Group was formed by 75 students. All participants were assessed in Perceived Stress (PSS), Symptomatology (SCL-90-R), Mindfulness (FFMQ), Self-Compassion (SCS), Attachment (RQ), Empathy (TECA), Academic Burnout (MBI-SS) and Personality (TIPI). The Baseline assessments detected high levels of symptomatology and stress. After intervention, and despite little practice made at home, there have been positive changes in Stress, Somatization, Obsessive-compulsive, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Anxiety, Hostility and GSI, in Observe and Total score on mindfulness, Isolation on SCS and Fearful Attachment and Model of Others. A relationship between decrease in symptoms and increase in mindfulness was observed. This relationship was less clear with self-compassion. All participants believe that the skills learned were useful for their medical practice. .
