Abstract

ABSTRACT This research analyses the effects of the Sports Specialist programs in the physical activity level recommended for the adolescence as well as other personal and psycho-social variables. The programs, implemented in some Secondary Schools of Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid are defined basically for the increase of Physical Education hours. It is a descriptive investigation with repetitive pre and post intervention measurements in 3 Schools with programs (experimental group) and 3 Schools without (control group). Participants (N=444) are students of 1ºE.S.O in both kinds of Schools. To obtain the information about the variables of the study, different scales and items of international tests previously validated were applied. Variables were on the one hand, PA record, intention to be active , sedentary behavior, Mass Index and obesity and overweight prevalence, Perception of Motor Self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation towards PE. On the other hand, PA levels depending on type of practice (organized, spontaneous, curricular/extracurricular) and AF levels in the School (breaks, sports club and the like). Results allow to conclude the positive effects of the programs, specifically in girls with highlights in motivation, intention to be active, perceived motor self-efficacy, practice level in PA in the school (breaks/club, teams..), accomplishment degree in PA during spare time. However, some of the positive effects of these programs in relation with sedentary or active behaviors of students, have been solely carry out during the days which they were applied, taking no effect the weekend period.
