Abstract

When Lawrence Kohlberg’s 90th birthday is over, it is important to remember the relevance of his contributions to people’s moral-cognitive development. However, the progress of this theory would not have been possible without the previous studies of Jean Piaget on the process of construction of autonomous morality in the child. The work of both authors has had great pedagogical effects on a just and autonomous thought constitution. One of the techniques used by Kohlberg for people to progress in the stages of moral development defined by him is moral dilemma. We consider this technique continues being valid nowadays, as we have checked with university students. Nonetheless, we have seen the hypothetical dilemmas used by Kohlberg have become obsolete, changing the value system of our students and our social context where we live. Thus, we have had to create new dilemmas adapted to actuality. These quandaries have been experimented with university students to ensure their validity and effectiveness for meeting the objectives. These new dilemmas are a suitable material for working with students in order to they learn the technique and be able to advance to higher levels of moral-cognitive development.
