Abstract
The paper aims to highlight the link between social competence and civic education from a psychosocial perspective. In this sense, conceptual bases including social competence prove to be relevant in the education system (distinguishing between social competence, social skills and assertiveness). Training of social competence by means of adequate strategies and techniques, and programs contributing to a comprehensive development within infancy and adolescence in a school context are presented. Ultimately, the paper stresses the importance of promoting an integrative education of children and adolescents through school interventions carefully designed, implemented and assessed, focused on training the different social skills that compose social competence. In addition to the intrinsic benefits of increasing social competence, this kind of psychosocial interventions would undoubtedly foster a better quality of life and the development of a “moral personality” decisive for the worth of our future citizens.
