Resumen
En este trabajo se analiza el crecimiento del gasto en I+D de las empresas manufactureras españolas a través de su descomposición en tres componentes que recogen la iniciación en la realización de actividades de I+D, su persistencia y su nivel de intensificación. Utilizando datos de la Encuesta sobre Estrategias Empresariales para el período 1990-2006, los resultados indican que la importancia relativa de cada componente difiere según el tamaño de las empresas. Así, encontramos que las pequeñas empresas habrían experimentado un mayor crecimiento en la I+D si hubiesen podido mejorar el componente de persistencia. Para las empresas grandes, la intensificación parece ser el componente más importante para explicar la evolución del gasto en I+D a largo plazo.
