Resumo

The aim of this work is to study the relationship between motivational climate and cohesion in 140 youth soccer players representing 9 league teams. Within the overall sample, 9 teams participated in cadete (ages 13-16) divisions of the Valencia youth soccer league. Spanish versions of the PMCSQ-2 (Newton & Duda, 1993) and the GEQ (Carron, Widmeyer, & Brawley, 1985) were administered to athletes by team representatives at a team practice during a one-week target period at approximately the mid-point of the competitive league season. Task climate was the stronger predictor of task and social cohesion.
