Pau Rausell has a degree in Economics and Business Sciences. Born in Gandia (La Safor) in 1966. He joined the University of Valencia as a teacher and researcher in 1989. From the beginning he was interested in the unknown subdiscipline of Cultural Economics (Cultural Economics). In 1996, once he obtained his doctorate, he began research on the cultural and creative sectors. His doctoral thesis is the first in Spain that analyzes cultural policy from the perspective of Economics. In 1999 he formalized and publicly presented the Econcult Research Group, a pioneer in Spain and which continues to this day, becoming a reference at both a national and European level. Pau Rausell has also stood out for his efforts in the dissemination and transfer of knowledge. He has published journalistic articles on Cultural Economy in media such as El PAÍS, Diario.es, Infolibre, Saò and regularly collaborates with think tanks in reports on the state of culture in Spain from the Alternativas Foundation or reports from the Real Instituto Elcano. He has directed and participated in various European research consortia on the impacts of culture and design on innovation, urban renewal, health and citizen participation. He is also a specialist in topics related to cultural statistics and data analysis on culture. He has also participated in numerous cultural planning projects for various cities and regions, and his work has a verifiable influence on the development of cultural policies in Spain at both the national and regional levels. He has led the preparation of Valencia's candidatures for World Design Capital and a UNESCO creative city.
