Abstract

The following article analyzes the content of the publication Terra Valenciana, a bulletin of Valencian studies edited by the Centre Regional Valencià of Montevideo between 1954 and 1958. This bulletin was sponsored by the colony of republican political exiles and Valencian emigrants living in Uruguay. By reading this magazine we can learn about the daily life, interests, debates, trades and professions of the Valencian diaspora established in this latin-american country. The rigor of the contents, the quality of the articles in which texts by Joan Fuster, Teodor Llorente, Manuel Sanchis Guarner, Ferrándiz Albors, Francesc Almela i Vives, Lluís Laporta, Juan de Timoneda, Gabriel Miró, Vicente Wenceslao Querol or Robert Estellés, among others, gave this newsletter a surprising level. Terra Valenciana was a publication committed to democratic values, open to dialogue and the debate of ideas, lover of Valencian heritage and interested in history, literature, popular culture and language.
