Abstract
This study shows the results obtained through a field, descriptive/correlational research carried out in130 institutionalized elderly subjects in two nursing homes in Valencia (Spain). We evaluated different factors: sociodemographic variables (age, gender…), the period of institutionalization, the amount and type of visits, their general health condition, daily physical activities, medication prescribed and perceived well-being. The findings indicate that most of the subjects (86.6 %) highly value receiving visits from relatives and friends pointing out interesting positive relationships with a better state of health and a great number of recreational activities. Unfortunately, the data gathered also show a decrease in the number of visits the longer the subjects stay in the nursing home.
