Resumo
This article addresses the perspective of childhood, in a context of immigration, in three “beur” novels by two authors considered to be the founders of this literature: Mehdi Charef and Azouz Begag. Beyond the general framework of creation, there are differences that, in our opinion, should be clarified. Indeed, the perspective of childhood is inserted into the mechanisms of many conflicts illustrating the network of relationships between characters and institutions. We address this issue through Le gone du Châaba (1986), from Azouz Begag, and through À bras-le-coeur (2006) and Le thé au harem d’Archi Ahmed (1983), from Mehdi Charef, by analyzing the different points of view of narrators/children regarding the spaces of the school and slums, as well as the problem of identity.
