Résumé
Taking part in the renewed interest in the political performance of the nobility during the Modern Age, this text focuses on the strong opposition that Don Jerónimo Cabanilles – lord of Alginet, Bolbaite and Benissanó – had to face when fulfilling his duty as governor of Valencia and that reached its pinnacle in the residence to which he was subjected by the inspector Pedro la Gasca. Beyond its factual dimension, the subsequent process brought to the surface rivalries and solidarities that involved the highest social sectors of Valencian society, and above all the exercise of Prince Philip's gracious power.
