Abstract

The main objective of this work is to offer an overview of the evolution of active aging poli-cies based on social tourism in Spain. The case documented here is that of the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (IMSERSO) as an institution in charge of managing this public policy. To characterize the case study, an analysis of their reports and related documentation has been carried out. Among the main conclusions are the contributions to a better quality of life for the elderly through the experiences of traveling to new destinations or the relaxing experience in attached spas. The use of public funds for the implementation of such activities guarantees a lower price of target population and also promotes tourism, the most important sector of the Spanish economy.
