Resum

In this work, the confocal microscopy tool has been explored on photographic prints in order to contribute to the physical characterization of historical methods and techniques. This tool, commonly used in molecular biology field, is a non-invasive technique that has allowed to examine, through the primary fluorescence phenomenon, morphologies at different scales in the search for recognition of the compositional structure of photographic processes. Confocal microscopy allows to recognize some stratigraphic features of the samples studied through its multilayer structure, being able to obtain images of the different strata at very high resolution. In addition, it has been possible to identify binder types thanks to their morphology and relate them to their main physico-chemical properties. The photographic printing typologies has also been indicated, thanks to the recognition of intermediate layers such as the barite layer where other superficialtechniques have not made possible, as well as the silver distribution that forms the photographic image.
