Resumen

Today’s societies have been immersed in substantial changes, many of them produced by technological advances, especially regarding information and communication technology (ICT), becoming a necessary tool for personal and/or personal life. or professional for the opportunities and benefits it provides. As aresult of the pandemic, social networks have been par excellence the way to communicate and socialize, especially among our young people called “digital natives”. All this fact has caused, that it is of special relevanceto investigate in the educational field the problem that entails the excessive use of social networks. The presentstudy has as a general purpose to know the use that postgraduate students make of social networks. The research design is descriptive and inferential, since the study variables are described, and significant differencesare established based on personal and contextual factors. The sample is made up of 250 postgraduate universitystudents from two Private Universities of the Valencian Community. An adapted version of the Internet Addiction Test was used to collect the information. The results indicate that university students use social networkson a regular basis and have more than one profile. However, they do not present a problematic or abusive use ofsocial networks. It is true that ICT and specifically Virtual Social Networks are part of today’s society and areincreasingly present in the educational field. Making good use of them, properly incorporating them into theteaching-learning process, and avoiding both academic and psychological problems are some of the challengesthat must be faced, and adequate responses given.
