Resumo

This study aims to understand how teachers linked to PAS perceive the various experiences of SL, in order to improve future educational initiatives in this field. A qualitative study design was chosen in which information from 12 participants was collected through two focus groups. Then, it was analysed using a procedure called ‘thinking with theory’ (Jackson & Mazzei, 2012). The results obtained were reflected in a non-linear network of categories. The main strengths focused on knowledge transfer and institutional social engagement. On the other hand, the main weaknesses are related to the excessive bureaucratic burden on teaching staff, together with the lack of recognition. In summary, the need to adopt a critical stance as teaching and research staff in order to design better SL experiences is addressed.
