The pressures and coercion that have been exerted and continue to be exerted against women to marry for political, economic or The pressures and coercion that have been exerted and continue to be exerted against women to marry for political, economic or dynastic reasons by the men in their families, and by the families interested in these marriages, are recurrent in history and not always properly understood, especially in the case of women of high social hierarchy, to whom a conjugal, political and economic duty inherent to their position is assumed. We analyse the case of Margaret of Parma.
