Abstract
The aim of this article contributes to the study of university students experience and, specifically, to the feeling of debt toward parents and society. This paper examines the factors that may influence the composition of these feelings. It is also analyzed the relationship according to academic outcomes, feelings of guilt and the strategies provided in case of bad performance. The research work is based on a questionnaire filled by 857 university students halfway through their studies in 10 degrees and 4 universities in Barcelona Metropolitan Area. It is concluded that the feeling of debt toward parents and society is widespread among all university students. It is suggested that some factors have an effect on the development of these feelings such a combination of social class and gender, emotional support from parents and the cost of attending university. In case of bad performance, it is observed that more academically strategies are diverse, with slight differences according to social class.
