Abstract

Socioscientific issues are scientific problems with strong social repercussions, which develop critical thinking skills: consult information sources, distinguish between reliable and unreliable sources, acquire alternative positions, scramble arguments, favor decisions, etc. Here, we will present a theoretical introduction and show examples developed for chemistry teaching: biochemical structures (Dorothy Crowfoot), radioactive isotopes (Irene Joliot), CFC and ozone cycle (Mario Molina) and the structure of matter (Linus Pauling).
