Resumen

Objetives: the purpose of this study is to determine the values of angular cephalometric facial soft tissue profile of a group of young adults by the photometric analysis of the facial profile as well as the differences between men and women. Material and Methods: 75 students (27 men and 48 women) from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Valencia (Spain) from 18 to 23 years and who had not received orthodontic treatment were selected for this analysis following a series of criteria. All pictures were taken in natural head position and analyzed with Nemoceph® computer system. Results: significant differences between men and women in the nasofrontal, vertical nasal, nasolabial, cervico-mental and facial convexity including the nose angle were found. Conclusions: orthodontics and orthognathic surgery have the ability to change the appearance of the face, so it is necessary for the clinician to have knowledge of the aesthetic standards so as to follow a guide to achieve the proper goals in the treatment of their patients.
