Abstract

This work shows the existence of tectonic activity of the Quaternary materials of the Tuéjar river, in the NNW of the province of Valencia belonging to the geological domain of the Iberian mountain range. The study area is located in the sorrounding area of the Chelva village from the North of the Tuéjar village to the mouth of the Tuéjar river in the Turia river. The Quaternary (Pleistocene) deposits are mostly fluvial in origin (detritic facies and carbonate tufas) and are grouped into 5 identifiable sedimentary episodes (E0, E1, E2, E3 and E4). The deposits show features of extensional tectonics (faults, flexures, tilts, ...), mainly located in the oldest sedimentary units. Two main stages of extensional tectonic activity (N1 and N2) took place before episode E2 and after episode E3 respectively.
