Résumé

The starting point of this research is the adequacy between the highly qualified women´s profile and the organisations' requirements of horizontal, people-centred managerial behaviour, alternative to the current business culture. Several theories associate the transformational management style with the characteristics of the feminine stereotype. This paper pursues two aims. First, to check in a large representative sample of managers if there exist differences in management style; and second, to analyse the correspondence with the transactional and transformational styles from the leadership questionnaire by Bass and Avolio. Our interpretation of results shows the need for more women managers in the top positions, not only out of humanitarian arguments based on the principle of equal rights and opportunities but because of the contribution of the feminine management style to organisational efficacy.
