Abstract

This paper analyses the reception of Carne trémula (understood both as novel and film adaptation) in four Spanish newspapers (El País, El Mundo, La Vanguardia y ABC) from 1986 (year of publication of the original novel in England) until today. Our aim is to study how the Spanish press deals with both original text and film adaptation; Secondly, we delve into the presence of the original writer (Ruth Rendell, 1930-2015) in the target culture. Finally, we provide the first hints about the role of the press in projecting a particular authorial image as an essential element in any study about reception. Paradoxically, by means of a 'localisation' of the English text, Almodóvar would earn a certain global image for which the press is also responsible.
