Abstract
The gingiva plays a fundamental role on facial aesthetics, specially during the act of smiling. The dental hygienist should know its morphological characteristics before the begining of the periodontal treatment, and also which are the most frequent alterations that periodontal patients present and the surgical techniques used for its resolution.
