Abstract
Development of root caries (RC) is a frequent finding in the evolution of cronical periodontitis lncidence of RC increases in periodontal treated patients in maintenance phase, especially in aging patients. Development of root caries represents the need of an additional treatment that can compromise the viability of teeth with doubtful prognosis. Thus, it is very important for the dental hygienist to know the risk factors that facilitate the development of these lesions and be able to recognize them in early stages. In this way he/she can give to the patients preventive advices to avoid root caries formation and guide them for the best treatment.
