Zusammenfassung

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of a 6-week strength training program on the start in young swimmers. The sample consisted of 13 swimmers (8 men and 5 women) of regional level, all of them with at least one year of experience in competition. All swimmers performed a lower body strength training program consisting of two sessions per week for six weeks, which included resistance exercises, plyometrics and lumbo-pelvic stabilization work. All swimmers were recorded before and after the training. The analyzed variables were the reaction time, the time flight, the distance during the flight and the speed of the center of gravity during the flight phase. The results showed that this 6-week training program had no significant effect on the swim start. Future research should analyze whether longer training sessions with swimmers of different age and competitive level could have benefits in the swimming start.
