Resumo
This article analyzes the translation of the first French translation – actually the first one in a modern language – of Heliodorus’ Aethiopica by Jacques Amyot. Our attention focuses on one of the most significant scenes of this Greek novel: the ordeal of Chariclea, the young heroine of the story. The traductological style of Amyot will be examined regarding the original text and also his own programmatic purposes manifested in the prologue of his translation.
