Abstract

After more than ten years since the regulation of paternity leave, the RDL 6/2019 has introduced, as one of the newest measures, the equalization of the length of childbirth, adoption, guardianship aimed to adoption and foster care leaves of both parents, whose objective is to promote equal sharing of childcare responsibilities between women and men. With this premise, the aim of this paper is to analyse the changes introduced in this field and make a critical assessment of the new regulation. Although the reform has to be assessed in a positive way, as it constitutes a step forward the achievement of equal sharing of childcare tasks, I will make some proposals that, in my opinion, may contribute to achieve this target to a greater extent.
