Abstract

Prevalence of urinary incontinence in female athletes who perform high impact efforts has been widely proven by scientific research. This relationship has not been sufficiently analyzed in physical activities that are performed in fitness centers; and these are very common by the general population. The aim of this review is to collect data from research that examined the prevalence of urinary incontinence in women who practice fitness physical activities recreationally. Interpretation of data has revealed the existence of a correlation between the level of impact in physical activity and urinary incontinence resulting mainly from perineal injuries. In centers that include such high impact activities should be recommended preventive activities in women with urinary incontinence or risk thereof.
