Zusammenfassung
This paper focuses on a different aspect of clothing: its use as an instrument of punishment under certain circumstances. An examination of several passages from classical authors reveals that it was employed as a main source of punishment and as an auxiliary instrument of torture at various times in different places in the Ancient period. Its use to identify certain criminals is also highlighted.
