Abstract

Participate+ addresses student engagement in the university class. It is presented a system that encourages students to ask and answer questions, solve problems in class and attend to tutoring sessions. The system grants, under certain rules, participation points that are converted into a slight improvement in the final mark. The assumption is that this incentive will increase students’ involvement in the subject, and this should have an impact on a better acquisition of the subjects’ skills. All participations have been counted, and the evolution of the system acceptance has been monitored through multiple surveys and external observations. The experiment has been launched in two subjects of different semesters in the second course of the Multimedia Engineering Degree. The paper presents the results of this study, showing how student participation has evolved throughout the whole course.
