Abstract

Territorial innovation and the labour market come together in this study, which analyses the enhancement of Valencian cultural heritage in a novel way, establishing the relationship between interventions on elements classified as Sites of Cultural Interest (BIC) and the generation of employment in the territory in which they are located. The object of the study, the BICs, constitute an ideal typology of cultural heritage because of their institutional recognition, because they are heritage elements of great historical and social value, and because of their territorial implantation - the more than 1,800 existing BICs are distributed throughout all the regions of the Valencian Community. The BICs, through the intervention of private or public initiatives, have been enhanced in pursuit of some kind of purpose - cultural, tourist or social, among others - and have generated employment, permanent or temporary, both directly and indirectly. The main objective of this study is precisely to identify the employment generated by the enhancement of BICs.
