Abstract

Subordinate causal clauses and conjunctions that introduce them constitute an optimal field for linguistic comparison. Causal constructions usually admit diverse and varied conjunctions. These conjunctions usually come from lexical and transparent grammatical sources: locutions with causal prepositions, causal interrogative words, temporal and modal adverbs, etc. In addition, their origin constrains the types of causal constructions in which they appear and the evolution they usually show. In this work, causal conjunctions in Catalan are analyzed from a Romance perspective. Specifically, this study deals with the conjunctions derived from a causal preposition, on the one hand, and from a temporal adverb, on the other hand.
