Abstract
Even when the Spanish payments system has undergone substantial transformations, cash still is the main payment instrument. Within the differents payment instruments the development of the debit and credit card has been the main event in recent years, due to the profuse expansion of the ATM and EFTPOS networks. The smaller use in the cash has reduced the revenues by seigniorage, although the fall on the interest rate has reduced its effects on tax collection.
