Abstract

This study analyses the implementation of transmedia narratives in institutional scientific communication and in the promotion of responsible research undertaken by the Communication and Publications Service of the Universitat Jaume I (UJI). Specifically, it presents the conclusions of the implementation of phase 1 of the project “Àgora digital: narrativas transmedia y cultura participativa en la comunicación científica” [“Digital Agora: transmedia narratives and participatory culture in scientific communication”], supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), involving the participation of members of ten research groups and two research institutes and the Science, Technology and Business Park (Espaitec). The study analyses the proximity of the research community of the UJI to institutional communication channels, its positioning in relation to the Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) model, and the initial results of participation in this initiative. The new ways of communication and interaction in the digital age, introduced by social networks, are not only affecting conventional media. They are also creating new possibilities for innovation in the dissemination of science, and fostering interaction and dialogue between the various actors of the academic community, as well as society and the media. This study consequently considers transmedia narratives as an opportunity to move from the field of communication towards more responsible research aligned with the expectations and values of citizenship according to the RRI model promoted by the European Union.
