Resumen
This paper describes the role of the technical translator, the most important criteria for the selection ofparallel texts, and the elaboration of a reference corpus and the use of computer tools to help translatorsin their task of identifying technical terms, collocations and standard text segments used in R&D reports.Electronic corpora allow the translator to apply computer tools and to process information followingsome parameters; this will permit translators to verify the use of certain terms or phrases with respect toother units in the text; in this way, translators can create their own databases, based on real texts issuedby international institutions and bodies and adapt them to computer-assisted translation tools such astranslation memories and terminology management applications
