Resumen

En los últimos años, los estudios rurales han mostrado un renovado interés por el tema de la innovación social, un concepto que se identifica con la reconfiguración de las relaciones sociales en las iniciativas de desarrollo territorial. La perspectiva de la innovación social contribuye a comprender mejor los procesos de desarrollo, ya que analiza la formación de redes, y las actitudes y comportamientos de la población, así como los mecanismos de coordinación entre diferentes tipos de actores. Los autores de este artículo analizan cuatro iniciativas socialmente innovadoras en áreas rurales españolas y escocesas, señalando en qué medida dichas iniciativas mejoran la confianza (capital social) y facilitan el desarrollo de los territorios, además de afrontar algunos de los retos actuales (cambio climático, despoblación…).
