Resumen

Las artes escénicas fueron un ingrediente esencial en la actividad de los clubes femeninos de Londres a partir de la década de 1890, que contribuyó a la renovación del teatro británico del cambio de siglo. Sin embargo, su presencia en estos espacios ha sido sistemáticamente olvidada por la historia teatral del periodo. El objetivo de este artículo es trazar un mapeo de su influencia desde una triple perspectiva: lúdico-formativa; como promotor de dramaturgas con escasa visibilidad en los círculos más comerciales, y de renovación escénica. Para esta última, acudimos al estudio de caso del Pioneer Club que, como concluiremos, nutrió el discurso progresista de los ibsenitas y movimientos de teatro independiente que contribuyeron a la renovación del teatro británico de entre siglos.
