Resumo
The main objective of this PhD thesis was to find predictive relationships between variables, using as a theoretical structure of the Transcontextual Model of Motivation, in the veteran sport context, allowing us to understand some consequence variables, which is a result from the motivational dimension for sports practice, namely on cognitive (satisfaction with life), affective (positive and negative affects) and behavioural variables (lifestyles). In an initial phase (Study 1), the validation of two instruments for the assessment of healthy lifestyles was presented through a confirmatory factorial analysis. In a following phase, two correlational and descriptive studies were presented, where the relationships between the study variables (self-determination, planned behaviour, satisfaction with life and lifestyles were analysed and established (Study 2), including a comparison between genders of veteran athletes (Study 3). Finally, three studies with multivariate analyzes are presented through three explanatory structural equations models, based on the Transcontextual Model of Motivation, which integrates motivational variables of selfdetermination (basic psychological needs and formats of self-determined motivation) and the planned behaviour theory, respectively, with the variables of lifestyle consequences (Study 4) and satisfaction with life (Study 5 and Study 6). This PhD thesis demonstrated the connection between the variables that establish the Transcontextual Model of Motivation, as well as the predictive power of these variables over outcome variables, such as healthy lifestyles, the life satisfaction and the positive and negative affects..
