The study of human development involves the analysis of changes in behaviour within individuals throughout their lives (i.e., intra-individual changes) as well as differences and similarities between individuals in the nature of those changes (i.e., inter-individual differences). In this paper, first, human development is exa-mined from the theoretical life span approach and from the ecological approach of Bronfenbrenner. In the second part, applying the theoretical principles of the two approaches mentioned above, the role of school and family as an opportunity -used or lost- for the psychosocial development of children and adolescents is analysed
