Abstract

What are the risk and protective factors for the well-being of adolescents with CF?. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic, inherited disease that compromises the lives of those who suffer from it, and its impact in adolescence is especially important. Coping with these circumstances can improve or worsen the course and outcome of the disease. The goal is to understand the risk and protective factors that influence the well-being of adolescents with CF. For this purpose, a bibliographic search of the scientific literature was carried out following the PRISMA guide in the following databases: Web of Science, ProQuest and Scopus. Articles focusing on psychological factors of adolescents with CF, aged 9-18 years, were included, whose full text was accessible. We found 1192 studies, 33 were finally included for the review (according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria). In the results, it is observed that mental health at the time of the evaluation of the adolescents, sleep problems, stress, pain, family and peer relationships, have a great influence on the therapeutic compliance, being able to modify the quality of life, as well as the course and evolution of the disease. The main factors associated with adjustment to CF in adolescents are related to mental health and social and family support. Our study points out the relevance of attending to these elements in order to try to promote a daily reality of the highest possible quality for these adolescents and their families.
