Zusammenfassung

This article focuses on the use of archival sources as a complement to archaeology. The aim is to study the dating of pre-industrial hydraulic structures based on three significant examples located in the irrigated areas adjacent to the basin of the Mijares River, in the vicinity of Vila-real and Almassora. The first proposals are included for the development of an «archaeology of hydraulic architecture», which, together with the procedures already used by extensive archaeology, will allow us to have a greater knowledge of the material culture used in this field and the constructive transformations experienced in riverbeds.
