Résumé

On August 22, 1753, arrived to the New Granada as the new viceroy José Solís Folch de Cardona, member of ancient and powerful lineages, who received a series of ceremonies that sought to elevate Santafé de Bogotá to the level of the historical viceregal capitals. In this article we analyse how Joaquín Gutiérrez and other artists adapted to him the typology of courtly and apparatus viceregal portrait, but also how a new typology is generated: that one of a viceroy turned into a friar after a series of relevant problems and confrontations with other economic and political powers. Finally, and with anonymous author, a mortuary portrait of the viceroy is preserved, linking him to the royal traditions of representation of deceased monarchs
