Resumen
Medical translation is an essential activity for the development of medical communication and knowledge. This type of translation offers numerous job opportunities and, due to its characteristics, requires specifically trained professionals. Nevertheless, both university education and research have paid little attention to this field. In view of this situation and the lack of studies on the professional aspects of this speciality, this paper presents the design and first results of a socioprofessional study that combines qualitative and quantitative methods with the aim of obtaining empirical data about the medical translator and the professional practice of medical translation.
