Abstract

The transition from analogue to digital television signal is a complex process with economic and social implications going beyond the strict technical switch over. This process raises a number of exciting challenges, driven by the industrial interest in bringing the field of television broadcasting closer to telecommunications and computer industry. The present communication starts from analogue television signal switch off in Spain in April 2010. In this context, the following subjects have been identified as the most crucial ones: -Evolution of the local televisions audience. -Performance of thematic channels. What are the most popular contents as well as their degree of penetration. Since 2005, they have experienced a sustained growth. -Evaluation of new situation in connection with big channels offer increase.
