Abstract

The ultraviolet index (UV Index) has become of a great interest as a consecuence of the stratospheric ozone depletion and the consequent increasing in the ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation and its harmful effects on the people. In this work the evolution of the UV Index in Valencia during the year 2002 is studied. The experimental values have been obtained by means of precission piranometers. The expected values have been deduced employing radiative transfer models. These models allow the UV index forecast and the prevention of the risk on the people. The measured values are used to validate the models.
