Abstract

Dialogue, Epistle, Treatise, Homily, Testimonia, even Poetry are the main forms of the controversy adversus Iudaeos, that resorted to the exegesis of the Old Testament as the basis of the argument. The historical circumstances of the disagreement between Christianity and Judaism have a direct relationship with the contents of this controversy: in the early life of Christianity the writings were apologetic, and during the Christian empire were repeated the anti-Jewish topics. The use of the literary forms depended on the purpose and the recipients of the works. In many cases, however, it is not easy to know wether the recipients were the Jews, the Christians or both collectives.
