Abstract

The author of this paper reviews the vision that Juan Luis Vives presents about Greece through his book I of De disciplinis . Greece appears as a cultural concept that should be seen diachronically and not as a closed model. The Spanish humanist, in this way, anticipates the critical history and the new emerging disciplines for the study of the Ancient World that were born in the second half of the seventeenth century onwards.
