Zusammenfassung

Increasing employees’ organisational commitment as a way of enhancing their performance and reducing their absentisim and the turnover rate has become a key concern for companies. In this article we propose a novel perspective on organisational commitment by considing aspects associated with employees’ personalities. Using the five-factor model of personality (FFM) we aim to identify the influence of personality traits on employees’ continuance commitment. We apply quantitative methodology with a sample of 144 employees from three companies to explore how personality traits influence the employees’ intention to continue in the company. Among the main practical implications of this investigation, we highlight the empirical verification of the importance of employees’ personalities in understanding their degree of organisational commitment to the organisation.
