Resumen

The authors value the student's vocational tendencies in Odontology, -dental-students-, who have been asked about what branch of dentistry (Speciality or General-Dentistry) they would choose. At the same time they answered the Personality Questionnaire 16PF of Cattell. Most students having a vocational tendency are included in three groups: General Dentistry, Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. In general students are characterised as being impulsive, with a tendency to feel guilty, anxious and extroverted. When we compare General Dentistry students with those who have chosen to specialize in other specialised branches as a career path, we find that those students who choose General Dentistry are significantly more self-efficient and manifest a larger tendency to feel guilty than those students who choose Orthodontics. Furthermore students who choose Pediatric Dentistry are significantly less impulsive than those who choose Orthodontics. We find that 26 % of students have not made a clear-cut vocational choice. Females account for 68% of dental students.
